St. George’s Anglican Basic School and Derby Avenue R.C. Basic School (R) lose status as exam centers
Following the commencement of the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) conducted by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), GhProbe paid a follow-up visit to the two exam centers that were embroiled in gross examination malpractices during the 2025 BECE, Derby Avenue R.C. Basic School and St. George’s Anglican Basic School.
The visit revealed that the schools did not host candidates for the 2026 BECE as normal academic activities were underway. Further checks found that following findings of Dark World of BECE… GES officials Compromise Test’ integrity investigative piece, the two schools were taken off the list of BECE hosting centers becasue they were deemed unsafe.
Candidates from the two centers, as well as all 12 other schools they hosted in the 2025 BECE, wrote this year’s exam at different examination centers.
Pupils from St. George’s Anglican Basic School examination center wrote their exams at Martyrs of Uganda Catholic School, Mamprobi Accra, while candidates from Derby Avenue R.C. Basic School wrote theirs at the Methodists Basic School exam center.
The two schools served as exam centers for the 2025 BECE where GhProbe and Joy News’ investigation exposed how top Ghana Education Service staff mandated to police the examination rather institutionalized examination malpractices, broke the rules and actually served as watchdogs against external WAEC and National Security officials to ensure candidates pass at all costs.

GhProbe further found that the cabal comprised examination supervisors and their deputies, head teachers, invigilators, teachers and – in some instances – School Improvement Support Officers, as well as the candidates who were the beneficiaries of the crime; all ensuring that the candidates pass every single subject through no effort of theirs.
St. George’s Anglican Basic School, which served as an examination center in 2025, hosted seven schools, namely Darius Preparatory/JHS, Redeemed King of Glory International School, Varsden Royale Complex School and Edegray Memorial School. The rest were Zion Academy, St. George’s Anglican Basic School and Mamprobi E.P. Basic School, all of which presented a total of 180 registered candidates.
Derby Avenue R.C. Basic School examination center hosted Adormens Junior High School, Amamomo Junior High, Ayalolo 1&2 Junior High School, Derby Avenue R.C. Basic School, Agape Mighty Trinity Academy, Paulina’s Queensland School and Bethel ECG Preparatory School with a total of 235 registered candidates.
